Has it been explained into proportion any more than it was a couple of weeks ago? I think we got exactly what we expected with this one, though all parties have come out of it a little bit wiser. Like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

So, do you update this story now that the book is published and a lot of the hype and idiocy has been explained into proportion?

Journalism is hilarious. Always on the bleeding edge of not knowing the whole truth.

Heather: There was a distinct pattern that I noticed--anecdote, resolution, and then blame. Without going back through the book, I remember distinctly this happening with American Express. Which made me take out my wallet and look at my own two AMEX cards and smile.

Chris: So sorry for that snafu; but thanks for clarifying. It was a fantastic interview.

Actually, that interview with Simon Sellars was originally published on Travelhappy and syndicated in the San Francisco Chronicle.

I also did a follow up interview with Don Morgan, who has written extensively about Vietnam for Travelfish.org , arguably the best example of the new generation of travel guides that are operating wholly online and selling downloadable PDFs about specific destinations.

I read Tony and Maureen's book "Unlikely Destinations: The Lonely Planet Story" a few months ago and it was a sad read.

I was really surprised at how poor the writing was in the book and the fact that they "named names." I felt the entire book reeked of unprofessionalism.

After reading the book and receiving a little insight into Lonely Planet, I am not surprised at the latest development.
