U.S. Senator Tom Carper of Delaware is hoping to finally reward the state with a U.S. National Park. The other 49 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa all have their own parks.

Carper’s proposal links six historic sites in Delaware, detailing the state’s early Dutch and Swedish settlements. Carper believes his proposal is budget-neutral, although opponents question the expenses involved. The proposal will possibly go to the U.S. Senate this year.

More on the park proposal can be seen at USA Today.
