Royal Ascot (Britain)

Britain’s most elite horse racing event attracts the best equestrian athletes and enthusiasts from around the world. Every year, competitors go head to head for more than £5.5 million in prize money. If you’re the betting sort, you’ll definitely want to know about Gold Cup Day – click here to know Royal Ascot horses.

Ascot.co.uk notes that:

In 2013, The Queen watched her horse, Estimate, triumph in the Gold Cup. A dedicated racehorse owner, she has attended every Royal Meeting during her reign and the Royal Procession is always an iconic moment to herald the start of every raceday.

It’s a truly royal and prestigious event that should be on every traveling sport enthusiast’s bucket list!

Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (USA)

Known amongst insiders simply as “The Triple Crown”, this is a culmination of three separate races for young, three-year old thoroughbred horses. Winning each of these races is required to become a “Triple Crown champion”, which is largely regarded as one of the most challenging achievements in the sport of horse racing. The original term stems from 1800s Britain and since that time, many nations around the world have evolved their own instances of the Triple Crown.

America’s Cup (USA)

While it’s grown substantially since its founding in 1851, the America’s Cup is the most prestigious yacht race in the USA and, arguably, the world. It’s the oldest international sporting trophy still in operation today. Known among insiders as the “Auld Mug”, it pits the current champion (the “defender”) against a single other yacht club (the “challenger”). The two vie for the new title via a long-distance sailing race whose timing is decided and agreed upon between the two contenders.
