Los Angeles International Airport Named Most Social Airport in the World by Facebook.

LAX “likes” this.

Hartsfield—Jackson Atlanta International Airport comments, “yeah, but we are still the busiest.”

Suvarnabhumi Airport comments, “we’re catching up!”

Today, Facebook announced that LAX is the “Most Social Airport in the World.” The title was given based on how many people checked in via Facebook or a third-party location app while at the airport.

While LAX’s social success is probably due to a variety of factors, most commentators are contributing LAX’s win to the celebrity psyche of the city,

“Checking in is a self-serving sort of activity and L.A. is a hotbed of self-centeredness,” said Nick O’Neill, founder of Holler.com, a location-based mobile planning and search app. “Celebrities and people like that are all about broadcasting about their awesome lives.”

Well done LAX. And of course everyone on facebook who felt the need to check-in and update their facebook status sometime between your security pat down and grabbing that really bad cup of coffee before your flight–this award really belongs to you, right?
