Hopefully, we'll get rid of so much, that we won't have anything to put in a will...and, hopefully we won't die

I really like the idea of saying a few words about the things that are hard to get rid of...because, my french press has become a huge part of my life, but they are so cheap to replace.

Also, if you are married or have assets, make sure you create a will.

Even if you call your Credit Card Companies and tell them you are overseas you will still have your credit cards cut off a few times a year. My AMEX was shut off yesterday, its an easy process to have them turned back on but still a pain. Anyway, just keep some credit on you phone so you can call the number on the back of your cards.

@ Mike Melton When we got rid of all our stuff there were some things that had sentimental value, but no use anymore to us. Not, like, our baby shoes, but other things that we had just kept with us through the years. We use to have a moment of silence when we would let things go, where we'd have to stand over the object and speak a bit about it, then bid it goodbye formally.

Sounds weird, but it went a long way in letting things go.

I LOVE the concept of getting rid of stuff. I actually aim to be like Gandhi, not as a humanitarian, but as a man with only 12 possessions.

In an aim to get rid of all my CD's, which takes up most of my space, I bought an external hard drive. I'll load all the songs onto my iTunes, and then sell the CD's down at the record store.

I love the articles, keep up the good work.

We went through this process - selling everything and starting a RTW trip - a few years ago. It's really very liberating to be free of stuff!

Regarding IDs/documents, I wanted to add that it's also useful to scan them and have them stored somewhere safe - on your parent's computer or in a secure online location. If you lose everything, you can quickly access your scanned ID or have the file emailed to you.

All great advice. It might be a good idea to check with your government as to exactly what documents you need to get a new passport should you lose it, or it gets stolen.

Brilliant point, Miss Ex! I don't know how many times I've been bamboozled by toll free numbers that don't work.

I've been loving this series.

I can't remember if you mentioned this or not, but it is really important to get NON-TOLL-FREE numbers for any home-country companies you might need to contact while out of your home country.
