The best slice I ate in Italy was in Lucca. It was a non-descript hole in the wall that catered to a busy lunch crowd. You waited in line and got whatever was available when you made it to the front. It was wood-fired and melt-in-your-mouth. I remember they sold it by weight, you ask for two slices and then you pay per gram.

It was so good that my wife I made a special visit the following year. We were driving somewhat by Lucca on our way from Germany to Livorno to catch a ferry to Corsica. Of course, nothing can meet your expectations of what you remember to be the best...so, in truth were somewhat disappointed, but we realized the err of our ways. It was still damn good though!

What about Spizzico? I loved that place when I studied abroad... definite fast food pizza. But, I don't remember... do they cut their huge slices of pizza with scissors? ;-)
