Going Nose-to-Nose With a Great White: Shark Diving in South Africa

Joshua Hammer gets up close and personal with great white sharks off the coast of South Africa. And lives to tell the tale. A great read.

I’m reminded of this post from years ago.

  1. I really liked this article as it brought back memories of this experience which I also shared back in 2007. I cant remember the tour i went with but we certainly didnt have weights and as a result the choppy water was quite good at pushing limbs outside the cage! However the trip was an unforgettable experience not only due to coming so close to these manificent creatures but also its educational too. On our trip to dyer island we encountered some poachers who were standing on rocks. When it was explained to me why they were there, and seeing the reaction of the crew members on the boat, I realised how much of a threat the great whites are under. More awareness of this really should be raised, so I feel slightly dissappointed this was not touched on in this article. However, hopefully the more people that take in this experience the more people will be inclined to make it a thing of the past.
