I find funny how complex is the drinking in Korea. My question is: Can you remember all these points once you get drunk?
Great post by the way

Thanks for an interesting and funny article. I shared it my students (yes, in addition to being a photographer here in Seoul, I also teach English) and they thought that it was well written, quiet truthful and respectful of their culture. I happen to live in the area of Seoul where there are more bars than probably God has even seen: Shinchon. I've never been much of a drinker. Drinkers drink alcohol such as whiskey, gin, etc. I drink wine. Ha!! It's a joke, people! So if I want to chill out with a glass of wine with friends, we go to a smaller more intimate venues in chic or bohemian neighborhoods here.

You're a lucky man. My friends Kris and Karissa (Karissa wrote that piece I linked) still get misty eyed when they talk about drinking in Korea. Or maybe that's just the soju rising to the surface again...

Thanks, Chris! That's hilarious -- I have been to Beer Hunter and I remember passing by both Ho Bars 1 & 2 quite frequently. Whether I ever drank at either one is a bit fuzzy.

[...] The Art of Getting Sloshed: The Finer Points of Korea’s Drinking Culture: There is no bar time in Seoul. Evenings tumble forth endlessly in the city while citizens enjoy copious amounts of beer and soju — or, more recently, wine and cocktails. From the late-night alleyway restaurants to the posh clubs of the Apgu district, drunken nights are part of the culture: they seal business deals, solidify friendships, and leave you with the kind of memories you hope won’t be forgotten in the morning.
