If you’re unfamiliar with the name H.R. Giger, you are at least familiar with his work. Remember that little, independent science fiction film way back in 1979 called Alien? Giger’s unique brand of bizarre, alien art was the impetus and inspiration behind the film and countless other sci-fi films since.

Giger fans now have another real world place to congregate and drool over his work in Switzerland’s H.R. Giger Museum Bar.

The interior of the otherworldly environment that is the H.R. Giger Museum Bar is a cavernous, skeletal structure covered by double arches of vertebrae that crisscross the vaulted ceiling of an ancient castle. The sensation of being in this extraordinary setting recalls the tale of Jonah and the whale, lending the feel of being literally in the belly of a fossilized, prehistoric beast, or that you have been transported into the remains of a mutated future civilization.

The design of this, the artist’s latest bar, is a culmination of architectural inspiration from his other bars in Tokyo and Chur, Switzerland.

The bar is open year-round, but only seats a scant seventy patrons. Visitors may want to call ahead first.
