One only wishes it were the result of some academic sociological study, but sadly this lethal incident actually happened on a San Francisco commuter train. A man brandished a gun, repeatedly waving it around in dramatic fashion on the crowded train, yet this went unnoticed because passengers were completely engrossed by their smartphones and other gadgets.

Nikhom Thephakaysone wielded the gun openly on the train on September 23rd, then allegedly randomly shot and killed 20-year-old Justin Valdez as he was getting off the train. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras.
