I recently took a 6 month trip backpacking up california. Except I paid all debt, took no atm card and only 20 bucks in my pocket and a huge backpack with my life in it. the only reason i survived was God completely providing. There are still good people out there, that or i just found them all.ha I dig that you took the trip and held down a job, awesome

I have been mapping and planning for a six month plus road trip around the country and up into Canada with my dog. Hoping to hike, backpack, summit peaks and rock climb along the way. Setting myself up to keep my current freelance writing business going has been my biggest concern. Thank you for this very inspiring and encouraging article!

Doing it right now around the world. Sitting in Singapore at the moment, on my way to South Africa, bankrolling with a staff gig on Mercedes-Benz (advertising creative) and a monster freelance project. Neither have any idea I am not at home in Southern California. Aside from a couple pricey mobile phone calls when I wasn't able to get a card, it's been easypeasyjapanese, as these days, no one seems to care as long as you deliver great ideas on schedule. Only real trick is waking up at 2am when it's 2pm in NYC and sounding awake. Should anyone question you, just say you think you may be coming down with a cold and might need to take a day off. :P

If you have a Starbucks refillable card (like a store credit), one of the perks is you also get unlimited Wi-Fi access in their stores. The card also gives you free refills on brewed coffee.

Living and working from the road is wonderful! I've been doing it for four years now. Course I live in a horse trailer, with 3 dogs, 2 horses and a goldfish. They put up with me and take me for walks! Wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

Having an inverter for the car has allowed a lot of work to get done on the road or camping in the car. Saves on those morning drives to find an outlet, and been good not to kill the car battery sitting with the engine off too long.
