Joanne, a life time of eating blood clams and you don't know how they get their color? While most other clams have clear blood, blood clams' blood contain hemoglobin. Yep, the same protein in your red blood cells. Enjoy!

Btw, I live in Shanghai and have been eating these since childhood. They are called "blood clams' for the color - you didn't think there was really blood in this right? These clams are flavored with a fermented tofu (fulu) sauce.

okay, come on - boiled clams? Boiled clams are going to give you Hepatitis?

What about the numerous types dishes made with raw foods - meats, fish - consumed around the world?

Please don't feed the "everything in China will kill you!" monster with your sensationalism.

#10 was espesially interesting but not suprising at all. But Mc donalds isnt just in the US so he should have put "world wide" . But #1o dosent really affect me because i never eat there. There food is nasty, the fries are too salty the nuggets arent real and the hamburger meat most likely barely passed the rule for % of fat to meat

Ha. I like the last one. Fast food nation, indeed. Ironically, when I was studying abroad in Argentina, the local McDonald's was the only place I found that offered a decent salad.

John,

I was really going for life-threatening dishes. Basashi is unusual, but hardly dangerous. As for the chicken... well, I've never seen someone get sick after eating it, but the results wouldn't be that bad.

I also loved #10! Couldn't agree more.

How about raw chicken and horse in Japan? They must rank up there as well.
