by Mike Richard
I remember reading a study a while back noting how storage rentals in the United States increased some astronomical percent in the past decade.

There’s no denying it’s pretty damn cool on a technical and artistic level. However, the intent is clearly to influence pack rats to expand their available space to further grow their stash of useless stuff.
To me, the message is a reminder to get rid of all that crap. Whether it’s because you’re planning a trip around the world and need to downsize; or because you feel entirely guilty about consuming so much … stuff. We don’t need more storage, we need less stuff. Really. Enough already.

Thanks Mike, it’s a good reminder for me how unimportant “stuff” is. After all, I lived more-or-less out of a backpack for 6 years, why do I suddenly need more stuff now that I’m kind of “settled down”? I read back to your previous consumerism post and thought I should add that like the US and Europe, Australia is just as obsessed with getting more stuff. It’s sometimes difficult to extract yourself from the idea, but definitely worth it. And less stuff = save money = travel more!!!
