Socrates would have loved the new Hotel de Filosoof in Amsterdam.

Dedicated to deep thinkers and philosophers, this 38 room boutique hotel has been inspired by the great minds of history. Each room features a particular philosophical theme, inspired by greats like Plato and Goethe, and the theme is reflected in the murals, framed quotations and poems, and trompe-l’oeil paintings on the walls.

Among the themes is a Zen room inspired by Yin and Yang. In the dining area, guests dine on placemats inscribed with philosophical words of wisdom.

There’s also an extensive library, a garden and meditation rooms where aspiring great thinkers can ponder the mysteries of the universe … or why the 3 Musketeers in the minibar costs $12.
