This week, the Barbie Dreamhouse Experience will be unveiled in Berlin. The 27,000-square-foot pink estate will showcase the doll’s Malibu lifestyle, allow visitors to “bake” cupcakes, and view over 350 dolls on display.

It all sounds delightful for an 8 year old girl, but the new attraction is not winning over those in Germany’s Left Party. Protestors argue that the attraction and Barbie brand in general, symbolize sexism and materialism.

“The Barbie Dreamhouse is the expression of a conventional role model that isn’t OK,” Socialist Alternative editor Michael Koschitzki, told German newspaper Der Spiegel. An “Occupy Barbie Dreamhouse” Facebook page has already been set up by the movement, with the group planning a peaceful protest on opening day.
