If, in the unlikely event that at some point in the distant future, the United Kingdom ever becomes a nudity-loving country, Stephen Gough may well be viewed as its Nelson Mandela. Gough believes nudity to be a human right. As with many freedom fighters before him, his unwavering defiance of prevailing attitudes and laws which he views as unjust has meant he has spent a significant amount of time in jail over the past decade.

Gough has been nicknamed the “Naked Rambler” and, unlike Jamie Oliver, he truly does live up to his moniker. When not incarcerated, the die-hard naturist has hiked across England twice in protest, both journeys unclothed and frequently interrupted by arrests and jail time.

Altogether, Gough has 18 convictions on his record, and was arrested again as he was leaving court, where he appeared before the magistrate in his typical attire of shoes, socks, and a backpack.
