A North Carolina couple is suing AirTran Airways, alleging they were sickened by cockroaches coming out of air vents and storage areas on a recent flight.

Passengers Harry Marsh and his fiancee, Kaitlin Rush, are suing for negligence and recklessness after their September 15 flight from Charlotte to Houston was blighted by the insects.

Their lawsuit claims that, after pointing the cockroaches out to airline crew, one flight attendant responded by raising a finger to her lips as if to silence them.

I won’t argue that this is beyond disgusting. But what are the actual damages here? Suing because you were “grossed out” is just ridiculous. If that were viable, litigation over airline food alone would be out of control.

  1. I might sue you over the mental stress I had from looking at that picture above! :-) Tust me I was not happy to see that story moments after I checked in on line for my Air Tran flight today…not sure i’ll be sleeping much on my flight. But,yeah… Even with my extreme roach phobia, even I think $1Million is a bit excessive.

  2. NORTH Carolina – explains everything. Had they been from South Carolina they would have just killed the things with their shoes.
BTW they are not roaches, they are Southern Palmetto Bugs.
Seriously, they stink, are filthy and coming from an air vent it is no telling what they are carrying plus also contaminating the air.
    Pure neglect of sanitation. Nasty.
