Friday Fun: What American Psycho Can Teach Us About What Really Matters

I stumbled across this clip yesterday and it reminded me what a funny, smart movie is American Psycho. I first saw the film years ago before my lust for long-term travel had fully matured and before I’d decided to break away from the hamster wheel routine of consumerism. Watching it yesterday, I saw it from a different angle.
The clip represents the classic “keeping up with the Joneses” - the day-to-day comparisons most Westerners make with their neighbors. Many Americans do this in some fashion, be it with business cards, flat screen televisions, BMWs … better BMWs. It’s all crap. Meaningless crap.
Recognize it for what it is. And recognize the truth in that cliched (and true) bumper sticker expression: “the best things in life aren’t things“.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
