Gambling Addiction Sends Nun to Jail

It just goes to show that anyone can get addicted to gambling, no matter how pious or virtuous a person one might be. A Catholic nun is facing a sentence of up to six months in the slammer after she was convicted of grand larceny for stealing $128,000 from two churches and blowing it all at the casino.

An audit uncovered that Sister Mary Anne Rapp had pilfered funds from two church congregations in western New York, where she served as a pastoral associate while residing at a Franciscan convent near Niagara Falls. She will be sentenced on July 1.
