I love The Discovery Channel. And all it’s little sister channels - The Travel Channel, TLC, Discovery Health and on and on. I often wish cable was offered a la carte, because I’d only pay for about ten channels. I TiVo almost anything travel-related and The Travel Channel rarely disappoints. It’s like porn for a travel addict.

A few of my favorite TiVo Season Passes:

  • Globe Trekker: An absolute must-see if you love travel. Love the depth that these shows delve into and the brand of humor that Ian Wright delivers.
  • Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations: As a rabid foodie myself, I’ve been hooked on Tony since his breakthrough book Kitchen Confidential Updated Ed: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. His kick-ass, no-nonsense personality and avid love for diving into indigenous cultures makes for awesome TV.
  • Survivorman: Les Stroud is dropped into the most remote and inhospitable regions on the planet, where he must survive for seven days with little more than a multi-tool and a piece of beef jerky. The guy even lugs around sixty pounds of camera gear and films every piece of the show himself - with no camera crew!
  • Man vs. Wild: An interesting take on the Survivorman concept. Bear rules!

Anyone have any recommendations? Any killer shows that I’m missing?

I’m a big fan of all the shows you mentioned, and was going to get around to posting a very similar mention of them just as you did!

Bear Grylls did a great 4-part series on what it’s like to join the foregin legion (before Man vs. Wild). That’s some crazy stuff they do in the Saharan desert!

A 4-part series on the foreign legion you say? Well where the heck have I been? =P

Was that a UK-only show? I can’t seem to find anything about it online.

I just checked out the beargrylls.com website for the first time today (shame on me) and there’s loads of cool stuff - videos, books, etc. I might skip the Bear Grylls ActiveWear though.
