Imaginative Cartography: Maps to Blow Your Mind
by Melissa Hennessey | February, 2013
We’ve all seen the world map renderings of Australia at the “top” and North America on the “bottom,” but what if the world were truly flat? Or if the water and land masses were reversed? Or the no-less-scholarly perspective showing all the different area codes in which artist Ludacris claims to have “hoes”?
I was as stunned as CJ from The West Wing when I first saw a Peters Projection map, but it piqued my curiosity. This list features some fantastic alternative projections including one that shows the time zones of Antarctica. Then, for anyone who even lingered on the map page at the beginning of a Tolkien book, there’s a fantastical graph paper and charcoal pencil cartogram of the United States.
