In the town of Utsunomiya (located north of Tokyo) a pair of monkeys will wait on you, dressed in a woman’s mask and clothing.

The izakaya Kayabuki employs monkeys Fukuchan and Yacchan to bring hot towels and provide other waiting duties when the restaurant is busy. As evidenced by the video on CNNGo.com, the monkeys seem to be trained quite well.

Video of Fukuchan and Yacchan in action can be seen here.

  1. This is disturbing that a monkey is fitted with a mask – which the monkey cannot take off – it is more of torture than amusing.
