Kickboard Micro Luggage Travel Scooter: Tired of Pulling Your Luggage? Why Not *Ride* It Through the Airport?

Micro Mobility has seen great success in Europe with their unique line of high-end products. But when they asked if we’d like to review their Micro Luggage Travel Scooter, we were at first confused (Wait, it’s a suitcase that you ride?). Then intrigued. Then completely stoked to give it a thorough review!

The Skinny

So what is it exactly? It’s easiest to show you (note the photo above). But Kickboard elaborates to say that Micro Luggage:

… is the ultimate ride-on luggage, designed to help high flyers move quickly and effortlessly through airports. Micro Luggage is a specially designed scooter luggage case with a built-in Micro scooter. When folded, it fits in standard size overhead bins. When you are done scooting, the scooter folds up turning it into conventional wheeled luggage. The handlebar also retracts for carrying or placing in the overhead bin.

See it in (dramatic) action:

In Detail

It’s an innovative concept for sure – one that we’re surprised no one thought of before. Perhaps that’s because it’s clearly not for everyone. But if you can look past the somewhat odd notion of riding a scooter through the airport, you’re virtually guaranteed to arrive at the gate earlier than expected.

Design & Construction

Right out of the box, it’s clear that Micro Mobility put a lot of thought into both the design and construction. The fact that it’s Swiss made and was created in cooperation with Samsonite speaks to its level of craftsmanship. We like the look of the Micro Luggage – it’s sleek, simple, and Euro-minimalist. It feels immediately like a high-end product.

Features

Inside and out, there’s a lot to like about it:

  • Security check-point compliant
  • Permitted as hand luggage
  • Weighs 11 lbs
  • Three wheel lean-and-steer mechanism
  • Max. load 220 lbs
  • Case capacity 1586 cubic inches (26 litres)

The gist of the above points is that: Micro Luggage is small enough that you don’t have to check it, yet large enough for minimalist travelers to pack a long weekend’s worth of travel kit inside. It’s relatively lightweight, given that it’s not just luggage but a heavy-duty scooter as well.

The thing we liked most about it is the way it rides. Steering is performed through a lean-and-steer mechanism, meaning that you don’t steer the front tire(s) like a bike. Rather, you simply lean in the direction you wish to go … and the luggage follows suit.

It’s hard not to smile while zipping past other fumbling passengers at the airport, all the while feeling like you’re twelve years old again.

Pricing & Availability

Available now directly through KickboardUSA.com for $299 (USD).

Bottom Line

It’s rare to discover new and innovative travel gear nowadays, but Micro Luggage is truly one-of-a-kind. It’s well built, sleekly designed, small enough to be ultra-portable, yet large enough to double as a weekender.

Yet all of that comes at a price. While it’s clearly a high-end product and we love nearly everything about it, $400 is a steep price point – particularly for such a niche item. At closer to $300, we’d say it’s damn near perfect. UPDATE: The Micro Luggage scooter is now available for $299.

  1. Can I fit a small hand luggage (similar to picture) onto my kickscooter and take it through airport security in European cities?
Is it looked down upon, or will the authorities be okay with it?
