Britain’s New Mile High Club … Sort Of

Not to be outdone by the rash of sky high buildings spreading in the East, a group of British architects have proposed a mile high eco-friendly tower. The proposed construction resembles a vertical cylinder, and is designed to accommodate 100,000 non-acrophobic people, across 500 stories, besides space for hospitals, schools and shops for all residents.
Punctuated at regular intervals throughout the building are what the architects optimistically call public spaces – open spaces or “holes” that will feature some greenery and a mind boggling view of the city.
There’s no evidence yet of how exactly this building could prove less of a strain on our planet. But Popular Architecture, which has proposed the design, insists that such a building will alleviate the demand for land in the rest of the city. Sort of an “up, up and away” approach to living.
