A new mapping tool promises to give Google Street View a run for its money. MapJack is presently restricted to San Francisco, Chiang Mai, and Sausalito, but offers crisp lifelike images of the streets and areas you’re navigating.
The screen is divided into two levels- the bottom half shows you an aerial map of the city, while the top level contains pictures of the spot you’re currently at.
Getting around is a snap – simply click on any of the blue dots to get a crystal clear image of the area you’re in. Want to move quickly through streets? Simply drag Jack - your animated tour guide - around. Need a more in depth image? Click on the screen, and use the arrow keys to get a 360 degree view of the spot you’re at! Close up view? Use the Z and X keys to zoom in and out.
Your exploration isn’t restricted to streets – MapJack covers famous spots, piers, universities and other points of interest in town, combined with the kind of 3D immersive experience that Street View lacks.
With more locations to be added soon, Jack might well be the tour guide of the future.
