An eight meter tall sculpture of Marilyn Monroe on Michigan Avenue, in Chicago is blowing up a little controversy. The statue, titled Forever Marilyn, shows the icon in her infamous skirt-billowing-over-a-subway-grate stance.

Chicagoans have been split in their sentiments towards the statue. Detractors say it’s tacky and sexist. Supporters say the statue is all in good fun.

Either way the statue seems to be a hit with tourists. Everyone from girl scout troops to Chinese bus tours are stoping by to get their photo taken with the blond bombshell and to take a peek up her skirt. But if you are interested in doing the same, you better get moving, the controversial statue is scheduled to be dismantled next spring.

  1. This Chicagoan calls blashphemy! I haven’t called myself a Chicagoan in years ( Spain > America), but putting this up in front of the place where I interned just makes me cringe.
