The burgermasters at McDonald’s France division has decided to give their cheeseburgers a serious makeover.

From February 15th through March 27th, McDonalds France customers will be able to get their cheeseburgers on a fresh baguette with a choice of four different French cheeses–three of which are prestigious Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) cheeses.

PDO products are protected by the French government and the EU. The purpose of the PDO laws is to protect the reputation of the regional foods and to ensure the marketplace is not flooded with products of inferior quality or of different flavors.

The McDonald’s cheese selection consists of Cantal, a buttery alpine style; Fourme d’Ambert, a creamy, spicy blue; Saint-Nectaire, an earthy semi-soft number, and basic chèvre, fresh goat cheese.

Only France could turn a McDonalds cheeseburger into a culinary experience.
