My 5 Favorite Non-Travel Blogs

I subscribe to a ridiculous number of blogs, but there are a select few which are not travel related that I relish reading every day. I thought I’d share my top five:

  1. Dooce: I couldn’t possibly have less in common with Heather Armstrong, the blog’s wonderfully hilarious author. She’s a married mother of one adorable little girl and a dog named Chuck. I’m a non-married a-hole web designer who does not want kids and is perfectly happy having just the cat around. Nevertheless, her blog and photo posts are hilarious without ever trying too hard. The fact that she’s just being herself really comes through in her writing. Check out her about page to see where she’s coming from.
  2. Seth Godin’s Blog: This guy is a marketing genius who’s written a number of best-selling books. His posts frequently apply not only to the sales world but to life in general. I learn something new there everyday.
  3. Indexed: Jessica Hagy draws insightful and cleverly humorous doodlings on 3×5 index cards and posts them to her blog nearly everyday. I found this and this particularly funny.
  4. Get Rich Slowly: Daily nuggets of wisdom on the ins and outs of saving, credit cards, investing, etc. – all in laymen’s terms. A must-read for anyone looking to better understand and maximize their finances for travel or otherwise.
  5. No Impact Man: Ever since I started planning for my RTW trip, I’m constantly striving to downsize anything possible – clothes, expenses, consumption in general … everything. Colin Beavan of the NIM blog has taken reduced consumption to the extreme and his blog has garnered massive media attention for it. It’s a great project and you can learn something new and interesting through his posts every day. I recommend checking out this post first to see what it’s all about.

Anyone have any suggestions? What are some of your favorite non-travel blogs? I always love to hear about new sites, especially little-known or obscure ones.
