The Guantanamo Bay Beach Cages of Bondi, Australia [Photo]
by Mike Richard
Really, really bizarre. I still haven’t figured out if this is Photoshopped or not. Anyone know for sure?
Update: Evidently it’s part of an art installation, according to the Sydney Morning Herald:
Inside each of the interconnected four-by-four metre cells was a beach umbrella, a blow-up bed and a garbage bag.
It’s called 21 Beach Cells by the German installation artist Gregor Schneider, and its dominating presence on Australia’s most famous stretch of sand is sure to have tourists scratching their heads.
“This is art in the age of global terrorism,” Schneider said. “The structure entraps, but it also protects. It’s a clear and safe space to stay at the beach.”

Last time I was in Bondi I had my wet suit stolen off the beach, so this might not be a bad idea!
