This is the Grand Meteora in Greece. Originally these giant rocks on the plain (think of Ayres(?) rock in Australia on a much smaller scale with many close together) were filled with hermits (yes that is an oxymoron)who left civilization to be closer to god. Eventually they started meeting for worship. Then built monasteries where they all lived and worshiped. I’m fairly certain I just visited this one on my vacation. Used to be the only way in or out of these monasteries was by a rope net.

Will, thanks for checking in and for the info. I’m always amazed at how quickly travelers are able to pick up on photos of random locations and know exactly where they were taken.

Well it is kind of hard to forget a place where you hit your head twice and found out that, yes indeed a $500 camera lens does bounce after being dropped from a height of about 4 feet onto pavement. All in the space of about 20 minutes. The lens still worked thank goodness.
