Abandoned Pool, Arizona

An interesting Flickr discussion opened up to pay homage to abandoned pools. Having grown up in Florida (where pools are as commonplace as roofs), I’ll confess to a strange fascination with them as well.

By their very nature, pools convey an almost universal sense of all-American family, togetherness, good times and backyard barbeques. To contrast that image with photographs that capture such stark suburban decay is dizzying.

Perhaps my favorite:

Even in present day, hyper-litigious America, the sign is a bit unnecessary, no? Reminds me of a Howard Johnson I stayed at once.
