Ancient ruins found in southern Peru have sparked excitement about their potential for being remnants of the lost city of Paititi. Explorers have long searched for the elusive city, which has been described as having stone settlements with golden statues.
According to some archaeological experts, the location of the ruins runs counter to the previous evidence that pointed to Paititi’s possible location. According to the Peruvian government’s National Institute of Culture, it’s far too early to jump to any conclusions but that hasn’t stopped the Mayor of Kimbiri district where the ruins were found, from immediately declaring it a cultural tourism spot.
Legend has it that Paititi was built by the Inca hero Inkarri, somewhere to the east of the Andes, and the legend has long been used by tourism agencies to boost business.
