Qantas Sends out First Commercial Flight Fueled on Cooking Oil

The aviation industry has set a goal of going carbon neutral by 2020, and Qantas Airlines is hoping to meet that goal with the newest biofuel–cooking oil.

Last week, Qantas sent out its first commercial flight using cooking oil as fuel. Qantas is also working with firms on creating alternative fuels from algae and household waste.

We need to get ready for a future that is not based on traditional jet fuel or frankly we don’t have a future, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce says.
