Spiders Take Over the Sky in Brazil

In a scene that you might expect to be followed by the Doctor Who theme music, the sky in Santo Antonio da Platina, Brazil was filled with spiders recently. The bizarre sight was captured on video by Erick Reis, who was attending an engagement party. If rain on your wedding day is supposed to foretell good luck, then having your engagement party crashed by a swarm of hundreds of hairy spiders must portend good fortune on a massive scale!

According to biologists, this is a very social breed of spider that lives in trees and has a tendency to work collaboratively to create large-scale webs to capture insects in the evening. For those who are creeped out by the sight of spiders, it is worth noting that this phenomenon is most prevalent around Sao Paulo.
