Stockholm Invaded By Bank Robbing Bond Villians

We’ve been on a bit of a thing about how the US is getting outpaced in the “creative international crimes” department, with our public pot growers getting decimated by guys cultivating grade-A chronic in the middle of Greek motorways. Nothing highlights this disturbing trend better than two different crime stories that came over the wires last week. In the first, an Ohio man was pulled over by state troopers with a cache of stolen bras and panties in his pickup. Disturbing but hardly impressive.

But while we’ve been incubating Creepy McScary in America’s Heartland, the Swedes have apparently been raising Bond villains. These guys landed a helicopter on a building, blew out a window, and then made off with the cash. Cinematic!

The gang landed a helicopter on the roof of a cash storage facility belonging to Anglo-Danish firm G4S in Vastberga, just south of Stockholm, and made their way into the building through a window, police said. Witnesses reported several explosions. The gang then loaded up the helicopter and flew off. “The attackers used helicopters and explosives to enter the premises and they escaped with an unconfirmed amount of money,” G4S said in a statement. “A substantial reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible and recovery of the stolen money.”

At least one member of the gang has been captured, so obviously points off for that. And it would have been harder to pull this off had the Stockholm police had more than one helicopter. Ditto had said helicopter not been defeated and prevented from taking off by “a suspicious bag.”

But still: bras and panties vs. a helicoptered bank heist? We’re getting creamed here folks.
