Observant teenagers made the surprising discovery that some of the confetti that rained down festively during the 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City contained confidential information from the Nassau County Police Department.

The papers, which had been shredded horizontally rather than vertically and therefore contained legible lines of text, were found to contain private information on the department’s employees, as well as confidential police reports.

Parade officials were quick to point out that the confetti in question was not a sanctioned component of the event, while the police are investigating how this security breach occurred.
