The Eeerily Beautiful Singing Ringing Tree of Burnley

In 1957, an East German film called the Singing Ringing Tree told the story of a brave prince who wanted to impress his lady love by finding her the Singing Ringing Tree. He finds it in the kingdom of an evil dwarf who says he can have the tree, if it begins to sing.

Now, an architectural landmark near the town of Burnley in East Lancashire has been named the Singing Ringing Tree. The tall structure is made of galvanized steel pipes that have been configured to produce eerily beautiful sounds whenever the wind blows. The result is like wind whistling through your window on a dark night, only set to a spooky tune.

The shape of the structure seen sideways resembles a Cobra’s open hood. Coupled with its spooky sounds and the fact that it’s situated on a desolate moorland overlooking Burnley creates a rather chilling scene.

The structure was designed as part of a series of 21st century landmarks to celebrate Burnley’s reemergence and renaissance.
