Mozambique Artist Turns War-zone Weapons Into Artistic Treasures

They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. In Mozambique, one artist is creating treasures from used weapons.

Goncalo Mabunda uses old weapons from war zones and creates intricate masks and seating. Mabunda is best known for the “thrones” he designs. His work has been shown most recently in London, with noted prior exhibitions in Tokyo, Paris and Dusseldorf.

The work, says Mabunda, is ‘trying to represent each [person] who died with this same material. If we destroy the weapons, the same weapon’s not going to kill any more’.
