All-Vegetarian McDonald’s Restaurants to Open in India

Is there really such thing as a McDonald’s without hamburgers? In India, it will be possible by mid-2013.

This week, it was announced that two all-vegetarian locations of the popular chain will open in India–and near two of the country’s most popular pilgrimage sites. The first location will open near the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the second, at the base of mountain shrine Vaishno Devi. While there is some opposition to the new locations, mostly in connection with Hindu shrines and a beef-producing fast food chain, McDonald’s has had a presence in India for the last 16 years.
